Care/Maintenance

Carrying your leather good will bring it to a rich patina that tells its story. To ensure that it can last as long as possible, care and maintenance is key.

Use a soft, damp cloth to gently wipe away any surface dust or dirt. For deeper cleaning, a mild leather cleaner like Saddle Soap can be applied sparingly, followed by a thorough drying with a clean, dry cloth.

To nourish and maintain the leather's luster, treat it with a high-quality leather conditioner. We recommend Smiths Leather Balm or Mink Oil. Apply the conditioner in a circular motion, allowing it to penetrate and rejuvenate the leather fibers. This not only enhances the leather's natural patina but also protects it from the elements. If you have a horsehair brush of some sort, you can buff the piece with it to bring it to a shine. This method may remove surface-level scratches as well.

It is incredibly important to condition your good if it ever becomes fully soaked. The wetting and drying of leather makes it more susceptible to cracking, and conditioning will prevent this.

Conditioning is not an entirely scheduled process-- Every piece has a different life, so it's incorrect to say that all goods need to be conditioned on a certain timeframe. In fact, we've seen countless MLC products that have been carried for years with no conditioning and they look beautiful. Use your own discretion when maintaining leather. If it looks like it needs it, then it probably does.

With proper attention, our products will stand the test of time, becoming cherished companions in your daily adventures and milestones.
